Unsolved Case #39
Reference Number 01-13
Joseph Paul Gallico
Murdered July 28, 1996
On July 28, 1996, Joseph Paul Gallico ("Joey") was murdered by possibly a latin male in his early twenties. Joey was supposedly shot while sitting in his car by a drive-by shooter at the West Lakes Shopping Center in West Kendall, Miami, Florida around 11:20 pm.
Joey was wearing a white Nautica cotton tee, long, baggy jean shorts and white canvas sneakers on that day. He was supposedly shot point blank on the right side of his neck and bled to death. His car was a 1994 white Nissan Sentra/four door/tinted windows with a small cuban and an italian flag hanging from rear-view mirror.
There were four witnesses sitting in his car. They claim to have seen a red, Honda Civic drive by as they heard a pop and some smoke rising before noticing that Joey had been shot. The murder is unsolved after 5 1/2 years even though there were four witnesses!
In the police recording of the 911 call made by one of the witnesses to call for an ambulance the operator asked him what had happened and he said "My friend's been shot." The operator proceeded to ask how and he distinctly replied, "The gun went off and my friend got shot." We (Joey's parents) believe the statement "the gun went off" is very important because this means that the witness knew why and/or how Joey got shot even though he and the others are claiming not to have seen anything but a red Honda speed off in the night after having had a 'pop'. We(Joey's parents) have a gut feeling that this particular witness who was in Joey's car sitting in the driver's seat might have accidentally shot Joey point blank while playing around with a gun and scared to death of confessing, and has threatened the other witnesses to hurt them if they testify. Anyway, all four of these witnesses have so far, literally gotten away with murder by not testifying and obstructing justice. They must be brought to justice in order to keep others and their families from suffering a loved-one's untimely death as we have.
