Cara' J. Davenport
Murdered March 26, 2000
My daughter Cara' J. Davenport was murdered on March 26, 2000 at 7:30pm. She was fatally shot in the head with a 12 gauge shotgun.
On that Sunday morning, the day began like a normal day. She was on the phone talking with some of her friends deciding on what they were going to do that day. They were discussing religion. They had decided to go to church and then go out to eat. I was on my way to a meeting and on my way leaving out Cara' asked me was I coming straight back after my meeting. I told her no, that I was going to go over and check on my Mother because she had just had a finger amputated. I did ask her if she was coming over and she said yes. I told her I would see her over there. This was around 10:00am.
After my meeting, I went to my Mother's and called Cara' on her cellular phone, which we always kept up with each other. We talked briefly and she said that they were going out to eat. Cara' called me while they were at the restaurant and I asked her who she was with. She told me Dana (which was one of the girls she was on the phone with that morning) and named 2 other guys, which I never heard her mention. I asked her who they were, and she said she knew one of them. I told her to be careful. This is not anythng new for me to tell Cara'. I always tell her not to trust anyone. As usual she said Moma, don't worry about me, I am always careful. This was around 3:00pm.
Cara' called me at 5:45 and wanted me to get her some oral-gel for her tooth. Her wisdom tooth was bothering her and she couldn't wait until Monday to go to the dentist. I asked her where she was and she said she was on her way home, but never made it. Cara' was found shot in the head in James car outside of Dana's apartment. He is one of the guys that was having lunch with her.
Story: They had come back from eating and the guy James claims that him and the other guy left. Cara' and Dana was waiting on James return so they could go to the movies. James and Dana were supposedly been semi-dating. He said that they were leaving Dana's apartment when they saw 2 guys walk pass. They didn't see where these guys went and so didn't think anything of it. However, Cara' had gotten in the back seat of the car and so did the other guy that was with them. James claims when he was getting ready to get in....these 2 guys cames out of no where and fired a shot over the top of the car at him. He ran but said the guy put the gun inside of the car and shot my daughter Cara' and grazed the hand of the other guy that was in the back seat. Now, these guys came from the side that Dana was on...so she should have been the first one shot. She didn't get a scratch on her no where. After the shooting, she went back in the house and changed her bloody clothes and hid them under the bed. Dana had never gotten in the car, so she shouldn't have gotten any blood on her except for splashes if anything according to dectectives. I was told that Dana had called someone about 1/2 hour before they were getting ready to leave. She went into another room to talk. She kept telling them to leave and come back in 1/2 hour, but they told her it didn't make sense to leave and have to come back, so they stayed.
Several people knows who killed my daughter, but No one wants to get involved. Dana retained an attorney so she wouldn't have to take a polygraph test. This murder took place in Hillsdale, Mo....a municipality in St. Louis, Mo. There have been no arrest because of lack of evidence and witnesses.
