Tony was interested in different cultures and knew many people in the neighborhood. He left home around 8:15 pm on Friday, January 3, 1997. He walked to the neighborhood tavern called D.B. Cooper. He made some phone calls, and one of the calls was to a cab company. The driver picked him up at 8:36 pm. and drove to State Fair and John R Street in Detroit. It was warm for January, just after New Years, no snow.
Tony was dead about one hour after he left home. His work clothes were still warm in the dryer, when he was pronounced dead at the receiving Hospital in Detroit.
Tony, walked down State Fair street to Annin street, and was shot on the left side of the back with a 22 caliber, unshielded bullet, entered through the heart. He continued running two city streets, shot, until he reached a bar, called the Tiger Lounge on Woodward Avenue, where he fell, mortally wounded.
Arabic males in a white car were seen laughing at him as he lay dying. An Arabic speaking women, called the 911 number to police department whispered something about Tony and hang up. The police went to the woman's house, but she denied it. A witness said they had heard gunshots.
